A passenger was allegedly attacked with a sickle inside a Mumbai suburban local train after an argument over a seat in the early hours of Thursday. The incident took place at around 12:10 am on an Ambarnath-bound local train that had originated from Mumbai. After attacking the passenger, the assailants fled as the train reached Thakurli railway station. According to preliminary information, a heated argument broke out between two passengers over a seat inside the coach during the journey. When the train arrived at Thakurli railway station, three men allegedly attacked one of the passengers with a sickle before getting off the train and escaping.
The injured passenger was taken into custody by the Kalyan Railway Police and rushed to Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, where he is undergoing treatment. The accused remain at large, and the Railway Police have launched a search operation to trace them. A further investigation into the incident is underway. The incident took place days after a passenger was murdered in the Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train after a dispute broke out. Mumbai Local Stabbing Case 22-year-old Mayank Lohar allegedly got into an argument with another commuter as the train reached Andheri station around 10:42 pm. One passenger wanted the doors to remain open, while the other objected because of the rain. During the altercation, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen.
After the attack, the accused jumped off the train at Borivali station before it came to a halt and fled. Lohar, who suffered grievous injuries, was rushed to a nearby medical facility with the help of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. He was later shifted to a civic-run hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
