Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said government schools must play a central role in the reconstruction of Telangana and stressed that the State’s future lay in its classrooms. He was speaking after inaugurating the new building of the Kothakota Girls High School. Recalling his own journey from a government school student to Chief Minister, Mr. Reddy urged students to study hard and aim for higher positions in life.
“If anyone questions what a student from a government school can achieve, point to my example,” he said. The Chief Minister alleged that the previous government had neglected the education sector and failed to recognise the aspirations and sacrifices of Telangana martyrs. He said the Congress government was committed to fulfilling their vision by ensuring quality education and development opportunities for all sections of society.
Reddy said the government had prioritised strengthening public education by appointing senior officials to the Education department and completing long-pending teacher transfers and promotions. He attributed the decline in enrolment in government schools to inadequate infrastructure and lauded local MLA Madhusudhan Reddy for improving facilities at the Kothakota school. Stating that Telangana currently ranks 18th in the country in education, he called for collective efforts to place the State among the top two.
He said the government would complete distribution of Young India kits to 27.5 lakh beneficiaries by August 15.
