As many as 313 candidates will receive graduate and postgraduate engineering degrees, doctoral degrees and diplomas during the seventh annual convocation of Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT-Dh) to be held on the institute’s campus in Dharwad on Saturday. Addressing presspersons at IIT Dharwad on Wednesday, Director Venkappayya Desai said that in the convocation to be held at 3 p.m., Chair of Anusandhan Research Foundation Bhim Singh will deliver the convocation address. CEO of Tata Power Renewable Microgrid Manoj Gupta and Chairman of Pan IIT Alumni Prabhat Kumar will be special invitees, while Chairperson of IIT Dharwad Board of Governance Sharad Kumar Saraf will preside over the convocation.
Degrees Desai said that among the 313 candidates, 207 candidates will receive B.Tech degrees, 13 BS, 56 M.Tech, 12 MS degrees, while 24 research scholars will receive doctoral degrees. One candidate will receive PG diploma certificate. Gold medals Desai said that Amogh R. of the Computer Science and Engineering Department will receive the President of India Gold Medal for the highest CPI, while Siddarth Singh from the same branch will receive the Director’s Gold Medal for overall performance. He said that apart from these, silver medals will be presented to Harsh Jain, R.
Eshwar, Mann Manoj Maru, Nishanth Mehta, Jai Sharma and Vedant Aswar for their achievement in various streams. Honorary doctorate Desai said that IIT Dharwad is celebrating a decade of its establishment and as part of the celebration will be honouring Rajya Sabha member and Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murthy with an honorary doctoral degree. Joint degree programme Elaborating on the new courses, Prof. Desai said that they plan to introduce joint degree programme in association with non-IIT universities and they are holding talks with an Italian university for a master’s programme.
Dean of Academic Programme Naveen M.B. said that the Dharwad Research and Technology Incubator (dhaRti) Foundation, by IIT Dharwad, is emerging as a significant innovation hub that bridges cutting-edge research with industry and entrepreneurship.
