Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) additional managing director B. Ajith Reddy on Wednesday asked officials to initiate discussions with coach manufacturers to arrange additional coaches for the 69-km Phase I network that is currently operational across the metro’s three corridors. Seeking to improve services for commuters, Mr. Reddy stressed the need for robust and efficient first- and last-mile connectivity from metro stations. He directed officials to coordinate with Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) and transport department authorities to explore suitable solutions.
He was speaking at a review meeting with senior officials at Metro Rail Bhavan. The meeting also discussed measures for the maintenance and expansion of skywalks connected to metro stations, as well as coordination with railway authorities for their effective management. He emphasised the need to streamline passenger movement routes leading to platforms to ensure smooth travel without confusion. Stating that each metro station has unique requirements, Mr. Reddy called for the preparation of localised plans and suggested implementing pilot projects at selected stations before extending them to other locations.
He also announced plans to personally inspect station operations and maintenance through field visits in the near future. The progress of proposals for the Public Rapid Transit System (PRTS) in high-density areas such as Hitec City, Raidurg, Gachibowli, Financial District and Kondapur was also reviewed. Safety measures being implemented by the Metro Rail security department for passenger protection were discussed in detail. Joint managing director Shivendra Pratap, chief electrical engineer D.V.S. Anand Mohan, general manager M. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, chief engineer Y. Saipareddy, general manager (Security) Srinath Reddy and other senior officials were present at the meeting, informed a press release.
