The Thrissur City police have put in place elaborate security arrangements for the annual Aanayoottu (elephant feast) at the Sree Vadakkumnathan temple on Friday, deploying around 175 police personnel to manage the massive gathering expected for the event. The rituals will begin at 5 a.m. on Friday, and nearly 25,000 devotees are expected to attend.
Security has been tightened in and around the temple and Thekkinkadu Maidan, City Police Commissioner Nakul R. Deshmukh said. In addition to regular police deployment, anti-sabotage squads, medical response teams, Fire and Rescue Services personnel, and the Elephant Squad will be on duty. The District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and Special Action Group against Organised Crimes (SAGOC) teams have also been deployed to prevent and detect crime during the event.
The Commissioner urged the public to follow traffic regulations and park vehicles only in designated parking areas to ensure smooth movement of devotees and emergency services. The police have also declared the temple premises and Thekkinkadu Maidan a “red zone” for drone operations on the day of the event.
The use of drones in the area has been strictly prohibited, and violators will face stringent legal action, the Commissioner said.
