Mambakkam panchayat president Veera alias Veerasamy has been expelled from the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), after a video showing him allegedly accepting bribe from a person was widely circulated on social media, drawing severe criticism.
In the video, Veerasamy was seen sitting in his office, accepting ₹30,000 and handing the money over to his wife. Later, while speaking to reporters, he denied having accepted the money as a bribe and questioned why he would do so, that too in his bank account and in his office.
He claimed it was “orchestrated by the DMK and some councillors” to tarnish the image of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the TVK. His party was
not convinced. In a statement, Chengalpattu East district secretary C.V. Dhinakaran expelled Veerasamy, who was also the Chengalpattu East district deputy secretary, from the party’s primary membership.
