The government is considering taking action against the OTT platform Zee5 for streaming the uncensored film Sutluj without certification. Although the film was available on the platform for only about two days, sources indicate that screening an uncertified film is illegal. While current laws do not require censor certification for OTT releases, the government has issued a notice to Zee Five seeking clarification.
Furthermore, the central government is contemplating amending IT Ministry rules to make censor board certificates mandatory for all movies and web series released on OTT platforms. Meanwhile, the film is being screened by political parties and at Gurudwaras in Punjab, with the Centre stating that state governments must take action against such screenings.
