The Election Commission has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi by 12 days, pushing the publication of the draft electoral roll to August 17 from the earlier scheduled date of August 5. The revision comes after the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi sought additional time in a request submitted to the Election Commission on July 14.
Read Full Story Under the revised schedule, the door-to-door verification exercise by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now continue till August 8, giving election officials 10 extra days beyond the earlier deadline of July 29. The verification drive had begun across the national capital on June 30. Following the extension, the draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17.
The period for filing claims and objections has also been rescheduled and will remain open from August 17 to September 16. The Election Commission has correspondingly pushed back the publication of the final electoral roll to October 19, instead of the previously announced October 7. With the revised schedule, all the remaining stages of Delhi's Special Intensive Revision exercise have effectively been delayed by 12 days.
The SIR exercise is aimed at updating and verifying the electoral rolls through field verification to ensure the voter list is accurate ahead of future elections. Ends
