Karmarkar, who served as the third engineer, last communicated with his family stating they had safely crossed the gulf before losing contact.
The ship, carrying a crew of 24, including 11 Indian nationals, was reportedly hit by a projectile, causing a fire in the engine room and left the ship unable to move. The Omani authorities confirmed Karmarkar's death, and his remains are with the Omani navy, set to be returned to his family in Pune for last rites.
