Women students comprise about 60% of students at the MBA programme of the 2026-28 batch of Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) at Indian Institute
Women students comprise about 60% of students at the MBA programme of the 2026-28 batch of Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. “Usually the number of female students is about 40% to 50%, this year the number of female students have exceeded male students and women comprise 60% of the batch, reflecting the school’s commitment to diversity” said Abhijeet Chandra, chairperson, MBA Admissions at (VGSoM), IIT Kharagpur.
There are over 140 students enrolled for the programme and they are drawn from 28 States and bringing an average of 2.5 years of diverse work experience, he added. VGSoM was set up in 1993 through the philanthropic vision of IIT Kharagpur’s distinguished alumnus Vinod Gupta. VGSoM was the first management school in the IIT system and continues to be recognized for integrating technological excellence with managerial education.
An inaguration programme for the new batch of students was held on July 14, 2026 at IIT Kharagpur. In his message to incoming students, Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, encouraged the new batch to uphold the values of courage, conviction and generosity that define the Institute and its finest alumni. Rudra Prakash Pradhan, dean, VGSoM, announced the school’s expanding academic programs including the new interdisciplinary electives in artificial intelligence, technology management, and analytics.
Chief guest on the occasion Rahul Suresh Ghali, associate director, Accenture, urged students to view artificial intelligence as a powerful enabler rather than a replacement for human intellect. Mr. Ghali cautioned the students that artificial intelligence can be a tutor and a guide, it cannot be a substitute for one’s own mind.
