Veerapandian, on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), clarified that there was no change in his party’s decision to extend outside support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government and that it had no plans to join the Ministry. Asked about reports that the CPI was planning to join the government, Mr. Veerapandian told The Hindu that he had only said the party would join a government when the time came for the Left to assume power in Indian politics.
“The party’s decision is to extend outside support to the government and not to join it. There is no change in the party’s stance,” he said. Veerapandian said the CPI had an alliance only with the Left parties and entered into seat-sharing arrangements with other parties during elections. “The Left alone is not adequate to change the country’s political course from capitalism to a Left-oriented path.
We will work with democratic forces to achieve that objective. When our time comes in Indian politics, we will join the government,” he said. He also said the Left
parties might contest the local body elections on their own if the situation warranted it. “The party alone will take that decision depending on the prevailing circumstances,” he said.
