(File Image) In an initiative to give a new identity to the products made inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail by the inmates, the jail administration has decided to rebrand the products as ‘Tihar-Se’, that translates to ‘from Tihar’. The products were known as TJ’s, and came with a tagline – A Tihar Initiative. These products will now be sold with the brand name of ‘Tihar Se’, officials aware of the matter told News18. Jail number 2 of the prison complex houses a factory set up where multiple products are manufactured by inmates who are trained to develop skills to be independent and for their easy reunion into the mainstream society.
Products made inside Tihar range from furniture to detergents, clothes, bakery items, paintings, edible oils, sweets, namkeen and other household items. Speaking with News18, the Director General of Delhi Prisons, Anand Mohan said, this initiative is to connect people with Tihar-made products. “This re-branding creates a deeper connect between the inmates-made jail products and the outer world, the users of these products. This not only develops skills of inmates but also makes them independent and self-sustainable once this step out of the prison," the DG said. In an added initiative, the DG also told News18 that the certificates that will now on be issued to the inmates for their skill training will not have any mention of Tihar Jail or Delhi presence on them.
