The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (July 15, 2026) directed the Additional Sessions Court, Thalassery, to file a report on the allegation made in the transfer petition filed by the accused in the alleged murder of S.P. Shuhaib, a Youth Congress leader from Kannur.
Justice C.S. Dias extended by one month the stay on proceedings before the Thalassery court in the trial. The petitioners, Akash Thillenkery, a former DYFI activist, and two other accused, feared they might not receive justice after alleged disagreements between the court and the accused during the witness examination.
The Thalassery court, which is conducting the trial, had cancelled their bail and directed them to be remanded in custody after they reportedly raised questions during the proceedings. The accused had challenged the cancellation of the bail in another petition before the High Court.
On May 25, the High Court had found that the order to cancel bail was “evidently illegal” and set it aside. Both cases will be heard together next on July 29.
