(News18) As the protests in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir against the Pakistani government intensify, Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) leader Sardar Aman Kashmiri reiterated the group’s demand for an independent homeland during a public gathering. Addressing supporters ahead of the group’s proposed march to Muzaffarabad, Aman Kashmiri said the movement would continue “by all means" and asserted that the group’s central demand was for “our own homeland". “We want our own country. Everyone has the right to their own homeland, their own authority and their own government. Hand over our rights to us," he said. The JAAC leader also claimed that members of the movement had been subjected to threats, including alleged bounties on their lives.
“They try to scare us. They say a bounty has been placed on our heads and that they won’t spare us. We have come here carrying our lives on our palms," he said. The claims could not be independently verified. Referring to the movement’s supporters, Aman Kashmiri said the campaign drew strength from public backing. “We have the prayers of mothers, children and our future generations. This is our struggle," he said. He also criticised mainstream political leaders in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, accusing them of failing to represent the aspirations of the people. “Struggle was not written in your destiny; rather, bootlicking was written in your destiny," he said, alleging that local politicians had aligned themselves with Pakistan’s military establishment. Highlighting the participation of families in the demonstrations, Aman Kashmiri said headbands worn by children at the rally symbolised the movement’s demand for a homeland. “These bands that the children have tied represent this very demand of ours," he said.
The JAAC leader thanked traders, transporters and other supporters for what he described as their significant contribution to the movement and praised participants for sustaining protests over the past six weeks. “I salute every one of you for the resolve with which you have been fighting for the past one and a half months," he said, urging supporters not to “back down under anyone’s intimidation or threats." The JAAC has begun a long march to Muzaffarabad, while authorities have not publicly responded to the remarks made by the group’s leadership.
