According to a report by CNN World, at least seven villagers were found huddled together in a pitch-black chamber above the murky waters after the group, believed to be gold prospectors, got trapped due to heavy rain and a landslide blocked the cave entrance more than a week ago. According to reports, five of the trapped men have been found alive, while two others are still missing. Rescue teams have managed to send food and supplies to those located inside the cave. Divers from Thailand, Australia, France, Indonesia and Japan are taking part in the operation.
Some rescuers were also involved in the 2018 Thailand cave rescue mission. Officials said the rescue has been complicated by narrow flooded tunnels, poor visibility and unstable conditions inside the cave. Some sections are reportedly so tight that divers can move only one at a time. Rescue teams are pumping water out of the cave and assessing whether the trapped men can be safely brought out through underwater passages.
