With her death, Rajasthan’s maternal death toll has risen to 19 over the past three months. According to PTI, the woman, identified as Kamla Mehgwal, had been admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on June 8. She was diabetic and was in her third pregnancy when she underwent a Caesarean delivery. Health Deteriorated Weeks After Delivery Hospital Superintendent Dr B C Ghiya said Mehgwal responded to treatment for a brief period, but her condition deteriorated suddenly despite continuous medical care. “We had been trying to save our patient for many days. Our doctors were taking great care of her, but unfortunately, she passed away. She was admitted on the 8th and was already a diabetic patient and was on insulin. Due to diabetes, she also had renal failure." Dr Ghiya said. VIDEO | Rajasthan: Another maternal death has been reported from Bikaner government hospital.B.C. Since she was diabetic and had already undergone two Caesarean deliveries, doctors decided another C-section was medically necessary, and the surgery itself was completed without complications. However, complications developed the following day. She was put on dialysis after urine output stopped. Her condition improved briefly, with urine output resuming and ventilator support being withdrawn. She later underwent another surgery related to her Caesarean stitches, but her health worsened due to multiple organ failure, eventually leading to her death. The official said her child is stable. Three Deaths Reported At PBM Hospital Dr Ghiya said the condition of six women had worsened after deliveries at PBM Hospital. Of them, three died, while the remaining three have been discharged. Mehgwal’s death follows two similar cases reported at the same hospital in June. On June 19, 20-year-old Preeti became the first woman to die after developing complications following childbirth. Two days later, 26-year-old Sharda died after suffering kidney failure and undergoing multiple rounds of dialysis. According to PTI, officials said all three women experienced stoppage of urine output within 24 hours of their Caesarean surgeries.
