'Storm In A Teacup': Supriya Sule Dismisses Buzz Over NCP(SP) Support To Centre's Delimitation Bill Published By, Last Updated: July 15, 2026, 12:26 IST Supriya Sule calls speculation over NCP (SP)'s stand on the Delimitation Bill a "storm in a teacup", saying the party has not taken any decision. Addressing a press conference after discussions with party chief Sharad Pawar and senior leaders Jayant Patil and Shashikant Shinde, Sule said reports claiming that the NCP (SP) had decided to support the Bill were unfounded. “It is a storm in a teacup," Sule said, adding that the party would not comment on a Bill that it has not even received. “I am not speaking on any bills yet. We do not have the bill in front of us. When we have it, we will respond in 24 hours," she said.
Her remarks come amid intense political speculation that the Sharad Pawar-led faction could extend outside support to the NDA on the proposed Delimitation Bill and the Women’s Reservation legislation, while remaining outside the ruling alliance. Rejecting reports attributed to unnamed sources, Sule said the party had not authorised anyone to speak on the issue. “NCP (SP) has not spoken to any newspaper or TV channel. We have not given any official statement," she said. Sule stressed that she was addressing the media only after consultations with the party leadership. “I am here after discussions with Jayant Patil, Shashikant Shinde and Sharad Pawar," she said. Sule also addressed reports that surfaced after an alleged WhatsApp exchange between her and a journalist. According to her, the response was sent in a private conversation to a media person who is also a friend and should not have been projected as the party’s official stand. “I got a message from a media person. When I responded, I said, ‘We will consider if the 50 per cent cap is up for discussion.’ This was a private conversation with a media person, as this person is a friend," she said. Questioning how the exchange became a news report, she added, “How can WhatsApp conversations, privately, be made into news?" She reiterated that the message was never intended to be an official statement on behalf of the party.
