IRCTC New Webiste Launch: Booking train tickets on IRCTC is set to become hassle free and much easier for passengers as the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to roll out its redesigned ticket-booking website on Wednesday. The revamped platform promises faster performance, higher booking capacity and a host of new passenger-friendly features aimed at making online reservations–especially Tatkal bookings–more seamless. Why Is IRCTC Launching A New Website? Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier in June had announced that a new and improved IRCTC website will be launched on July 15. The announcement came as some students complained to the Union Minister about the IRCTC website and the inconveniences they face while booking tickets during an event in Rajasthan. A student at MNIT Jaipur specifically highlighted the inconvenience caused by the website’s CAPTCHA verification. The IRCTC is likely to launch its redesigned ticket-booking website today.
However, as per some media reports, the launch may be delayed to second week of August, close to Independence Day. Faster Bookings, Bigger Capacity One of the biggest upgrades is the platform’s capacity. The redesigned website can process more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings every minute, nearly five times the current capacity of around 32,000 bookings per minute, as reported by The Economic Times. The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) backend has also been upgraded to handle over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, compared to around 4 lakh on the existing system. The enhanced infrastructure is expected to reduce slowdowns, payment failures and booking errors during peak demand. What’s New For Train Passengers? According to the Railways, the new platform has been built to handle significantly higher traffic and provide a smoother booking experience even when lakhs of users log in simultaneously. The revamped website introduces several new features designed to make ticket booking easier Preferred seat selection: Passengers can now indicate their preferred berth or seat while booking. Fare calendar: Users can compare fares across different travel dates before confirming their tickets. Unified seat availability: Availability across Sleeper, AC 3 Tier, AC 2 Tier and other classes will be displayed on a single screen, eliminating the need to switch between multiple tabs.
