A fire broke out in the kitchen of Adharwadi Central Prison in Kalyan, Maharashtra, while food was being prepared, triggering panic inside the jail premises. Preliminary information suggests that a gas leak may have caused the blaze. Two inmates sustained burn injuries in the incident.
Tarak Gazi (30) suffered burns to around 10-12 per cent of his body and was admitted to the Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar for treatment. Read Full Story Another inmate, Asif Sindhu (38), sustained nearly 30 per cent burn injuries. Given the severity of his condition, he was referred to Kalwa Hospital for advanced medical care.
Following the incident, prison officials and police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. No other injuries have been reported so far. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. While a gas leak is suspected to have triggered the incident, officials said the actual cause will be confirmed only after the inquiry is completed.
