Another Siya-Ketan-Type Murder? UP Woman, Lover Allegedly Feed Husband Sleeping Pills, Stage Fatal Fall Published By, Last Updated: July 14, 2026, 23:54 IST In March this year, the husband allegedly caught the two together and lodged a police complaint, following which Shivam was arrested and later released on bail. News18 A 32-year-old woman and her 22-year-old lover were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly conspiring to murder her husband after feeding him sleeping pills and then staging his death to look like an accidental fall, police said. The incident came to light after Sughar Singh, father of the deceased Anand alias Mehboob (35), lodged a complaint at the Civil Lines police station alleging that his son had been murdered by his wife, Ashiki Devi, and her associate on the night of July 12. The allegations also echo the Pune-based Siya Goyal-Ketan Agarwal murder case, one of the country’s most discussed relationship crime investigations this year. According to investigators, Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, viewed Agarwal as an obstacle to their relationship and allegedly made multiple attempts to kill him before his death at Lohagad Fort.
Police in both cases have alleged that the victims’ deaths were planned to appear accidental, although the investigations are unrelated. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, Anand and Ashiki had been married for 14 years and have three children. Police said Anand, a property dealer, often remained away from home for work. During his absence, Ashiki allegedly developed an intimate relationship with their neighbour, Shivam. When Anand learnt about the affair, frequent disputes broke out between the couple. In March, he allegedly caught the two together and lodged a police complaint, following which Shivam was arrested before later securing bail. Investigators said the two then allegedly conspired to eliminate Anand, believing he had become an obstacle to their relationship. On the night of the murder, they allegedly sent the couple’s children to stay with their grandparents. Ashiki allegedly mixed sleeping pills into Anand’s drink before he went to bed. After he lost consciousness, Shivam was allegedly called to the house, where the two strangled Anand with a gamcha (cotton towel), police said.
To cover up the crime, they allegedly threw Anand’s body from the second floor into the courtyard in an attempt to make it appear that he had slipped and fallen to his death, according to the SSP. Police have arrested both Ashiki Devi and Shivam. Investigators said they also recovered the gamcha allegedly used in the murder along with other evidence based on the accused’s disclosures. Both have been remanded to judicial custody.
