A 21-year-old final-year B.Tech student was found dead at his residence in Suchitra after allegedly struggling with depression over the fear of failing two subjects in his semester examinations. The deceased was identified as Rahul, who was residing at an apartment in Godavari Homes, Suchitra, while pursuing his engineering degree at a college in Madhapur.
According to the Petbasheerabad police, Rahul stayed back at home to study on the evening of July 13 while his mother and sister went to a temple. When they returned at around 9.55 p.m. and received no response after knocking on the door, they broke it open with the help of neighbours and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.
The family, assisted by neighbours, rushed Rahul to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. In their statement to the police, the family said Rahul had been under depression due to the fear of failing two subjects in his recent semester examinations and believed this had driven him to take the extreme step.
The Petbasheerabad police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to his death. (Roshini suicide prevention helpline number are: 8142020033/44 and 040 66202000/2001.)
