Indian tourists planning to head to the Southeast Asian country will no longer be required to obtain a visa before entering the popular tourist destination, as the Thai government plans to restore visa-free entry for Indian citizens.
However, under the proposal, the permitted duration of stay will be 30 days. Once implemented, the new rules will replace the current visa-on-arrival policy. According to the Bangkok Post, an Indian tourist stays in Thailand for an average of 7.2 days per visit. Before the visa-on-arrival policy, Indian tourists used to enjoy 60-day visa-free entry. The revocation of visa-free entry had led to a nearly 20% dip in the number of Indian tourists.
