Harry Kane Hits Out At 'Division' Claims After Tuchel-Bellingham World Cup Row Published By, Last Updated: July 14, 2026, 21:07 IST Harry Kane has dismissed suggestions of a rift between Thomas Tuchel and Jude Bellingham, accusing broadcasters of trying to create division in England's camp. Rapid Read Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane (AP) England captain Harry Kane has rejected suggestions of a rift between Thomas Tuchel and Jude Bellingham following the Three Lions’ dramatic World Cup quarter-final victory over Norway, accusing broadcasters of trying to “create division" within the squad. England booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals with a 2-1 extra-time win, thanks to a brace from Bellingham. But the post-match focus quickly shifted away from the result after Tuchel admitted his side had been “lucky" to progress and was critical of their overall display. When asked about his manager’s assessment immediately after the match, Bellingham initially brushed it aside, saying, “Whatever. It’s difficult out there." Later, when questioned again, the midfielder added that Tuchel “maybe doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those conditions," referring to the sweltering heat and humidity in Miami.
Speaking ahead of England’s semi-final, Kane insisted the exchange had been blown out of proportion and defended both his teammate and manager. “When you are playing a game like that and to be asked a question five minutes after the final whistle, and he didn’t really know what the manager has said, what do you want Jude to say?" Kane told the BBC. “We had just been through a battle. It was really tough out there. “It is easy to try and create this division – it seems like an English mentality, an English thing to do at these major tournaments. But it is the complete opposite. “The group is where we are because of our togetherness – not just the players, the coach and the staff. Things sometimes get made out to be more than they are." The comments attracted added attention because of Tuchel’s previous criticism of Bellingham. Earlier in his tenure, the England boss had described aspects of the Real Madrid star’s on-field behaviour as “repulsive" before later softening his stance.
Kane, however, insisted there are no issues behind the scenes as England prepare for a blockbuster World Cup semi-final against Argentina, with the captain urging the focus to remain on football rather than off-field narratives.
