A team from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) on Tuesday carried out quality assessment tests on construction materials being used for the Polavaram Project as part of its periodic inspection programme. The inspection will continue over the next two days.
The CSMRS team, comprising experts Harendra Prakash, Avinash Anand Srivastava, Gaurav Pandiya and Vijay Pratap Singh, assessed the quality of soil and sand being used in the construction of the Earth-cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) dam. According to project officials, samples of two varieties of soil and sand tested on Tuesday met the prescribed quality parameters.
Similar tests will be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday. The inspection was attended by Water Resources Department Executive Engineer Srinivas, Deputy Executive Engineer Nirmala, MEIL
Polavaram Project General Manager A. Gangadhar, Deputy General Managers Murali Pammi and Guttapati Shankaraiah, and officials of WAPCOS.
