Six months after a 27-year-old software engineer allegedly drowned in a water-filled pit in Noida Sector 150, his father has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to take stringent action against the officials he holds responsible for the death. Rajkumar Mehta said that despite the passage of six months, no meaningful action has been taken in the case. Mehta, who returned from the UK and spoke to reporters on Tuesday, said he still hoped the government would take stern and decisive action. He alleged that officials who had been suspended were reinstated and that the builders named in the case were out on bail, while the findings of the Special Investigation Team have not been made public.
Read Full Story Yuvraj Mehta died on the intervening night of January 16 and 17 after he allegedly lost control of his car and drove into the water-filled pit in Noida. Referring to the probe, his father said, "The SIT has submitted its report, but it has not been made public. The officials who were suspended have been reinstated and the builders are also out on bail," he alleged. He added, "I have no idea what action has been taken on the basis of the SIT report.

Mehta also claimed that his son remained on the roof of the submerged car for nearly one-and-a-half hours, pleading for help, but rescue teams failed to reach the spot in time. He further alleged that there were no barricades, warning signs or basic rescue equipment, such as life jackets, at the accident site. "I only want to ensure that no other family has to suffer such a tragedy in future," Mehta said. He also said he recently visited the spot where his son died but could not stay there for long because of emotional trauma.
The case relates to the death of Yuvraj Mehta in January after his car allegedly went into a water-filled pit in Noida, and six months later, his father has renewed his demand for strict action against those responsible. Ends
