HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs Gangula Kamalakar, K.P. Vivekanand Goud and Padi Kaushik Reddy said all the 28 MLAs of BRS would quit their elected posts and stay away from politics in case the Annaram and Sundilla barrages are damaged in the process of lifting back water, as being argued by the government. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Kamalakar said a large quantity of water was passing through Medigadda Barrage every day, which could easily be lifted by without closing the barrage gates to feed Annaram Barrage for the backward journey of water till Yellampally - and from there with the help of canals, tunnels and pump houses - to fill different reservoirs.
He pointed out that crops raised under Mid Manair were withering due to lack of water in the reservoir. Kaushik Reddy said the government was taxing farmers under the Kaleshwaram project system to settle political scores with the Opposition BRS. He alleged that the government was perhaps not lifting water from Kannepalli to avoid the responsibility of giving bonus and Rythu Bharosa to farmers by not providing water for irrigation.
Further delay in switching on the Kennepalli pumps could also lead to drinking water problems in the areas sourcing water from Kaleshwaram project. He also pointed out that about 30% farmers whose maize was procured by the government in the last rabi season did
not get the sale proceeds so far. Vivekanand said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who was writing letters to the Centre, on Metro Rail phase - II was not writing to the Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) to complete the repair of barrages at the earliest.
