The new building of the Neendakara Taluk Hospital here is set to be fully operational and handed over to the Health department by September 30, said Minister for Forest, Wildlife, and Skill Development Shibu Baby John during a review meeting held on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) to assess the progress of the construction. The Minister issued strict directives to ensure no further delays in the completion of the work. The project is being executed by the Kerala State Housing Board, which is acting as the special purpose vehicle (SPV), with an investment of โน28.24 crore.
Significant progress has already been achieved, with 96% of the civil works and lift installations completed. Additionally, 85% of the electrical, firefighting, and extra-low voltage works; 70% of the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; 95% of the sewage treatment plant construction; and 60% of the furniture procurement have been finished. The chief engineer of the housing board confirmed that all electrical works are on track to be completed by August 31. Review meeting To ensure timely progress, a weekly review meeting will be held by the hospital superintendent, attended by representatives from the housing board and the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL).
Furthermore, the Minister has directed the Chavara block panchayat to collaborate with the Health department to evaluate the progress fortnightly and submit regular reports. Spanning 7,358 square metres, the new two-storey main hospital block is designed to house state-of-the-art medical facilities, including 113 beds. The facility will feature an expansive casualty wing, a waiting area with a seating capacity for 400 people, a pharmacy, a laboratory, two modular operation theatres, a 16-bed intensive care unit (ICU), a si bed neonatal ICU (NICU), a blood bank, delivery rooms, and general as well as dental The building will also accommodate outpatient consultation rooms for various specialties, including General Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Dental, Dermatology, ENT, Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Psychiatry, alongside dedicated rooms for CT scan and ultrasonography (USG) facilities.
Additionally, the project includes a 485-square-metre canteen-cum-administration building and an 82-square-metre staff quarters.
