According to the complaint, Sadhana came into contact with Abhishek, a resident of Pachomi village in Bareilly's Faridpur area. The two eventually agreed to marry, with the groom's family reportedly delighted at the prospect of welcoming an IAS officer into their household. A groom’s dream of marrying an IAS officer turned into a costly nightmare in Uttar Pradesh after his bride allegedly vanished with jewellery and valuables worth more than Rs 1 crore just hours after their wedding. A woman has been arrested in Bareilly district for allegedly posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, befriending a prospective groom through a fake social media profile and then fleeing with expensive gifts and ornaments on the night of the marriage, police said.
The accused, identified as Sadhana, a resident of the neighbouring Budaun district, was taken into custody after a swift police hunt. According to investigators, she systematically used the prestige of a fabricated social media persona to entrap unsuspecting families, News 18 Hindi reported. According to the complaint, Sadhana came into contact with Abhishek, a resident of Pachomi village in Bareilly’s Faridpur area. The two eventually agreed to marry, with the groom’s family reportedly delighted at the prospect of welcoming an IAS officer into their household. The wedding was solemnised with the involvement of both families, police said. However, the celebrations were short-lived. The Midnight Heist Before the ‘Suhagraat’ According to the FIR, after arriving at her husband’s home following the wedding, Sadhana was gifted a large quantity of gold, silver and diamond jewellery by family members. The groom’s family alleges that on the night of the wedding, while Abhishek was asleep, the bride collected the valuables and disappeared before the couple’s “suhagraat" (wedding night), News18 Hindi reported.
The family later approached the police, claiming that jewellery, cash and other valuables worth more than Rs 1 crore had gone missing. Based on Abhishek’s complaint, police registered a case against Sadhana, her father and two other family members on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy. How Fake IAS Was Tracked Bareilly Police formed three teams to track down the accused. After an investigation, officers arrested Sadhana and launched a search for the remaining accused, who are believed to have assisted in the alleged fraud. Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused had targeted other victims using a similar modus operandi. Authorities have claimed that the remaining suspects will be arrested soon. Sadhana is expected to be produced before a court and sent to judicial custody. The case has drawn widespread attention locally, with investigators examining the fake IAS profile and the extent of the alleged marriage fraud network.
