Ganja, illicit liquor seized in enforcement drive by Excise department; three arrested
The Telangana Excise department arrested three persons and seized 3.92 kg of ganja, 584 bottles and nips of illicit and non-duty-paid liquor, and 364 litres
The Telangana Excise department arrested three persons and seized 3.92 kg of ganja, 584 bottles and nips of illicit and non-duty-paid liquor, and 364 litres of illicitly distilled (ID) liquor during a series of enforcement drives conducted across the State. In Hyderabad, the enforcement team raided a house in the King Koti area and seized 2.4 kg of ganja. The accused, Gulzar Khan, was arrested and handed over to the Nampally Excise Station along with the seized contraband. In a separate operation, the LB Nagar District Task Force (DTF) seized 671 gm of ganja from Nitish at Allampalli and handed him over to the LB Nagar Excise Station.
The Excise STF also arrested 29-year-old Bulli Abhiram while he was found selling ganja in Vasantha Nagar Colony near the Aha Box Cricket ground within the limits of the Nizampet excise station. Officials seized 850 gm of ganja, a motorcycle and a mobile phone from his possession before handing him over to the local excise station. As part of a crackdown on non-duty-paid liquor, excise teams carried out vehicle inspections at Pahadishareef near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Personnel from the Shamshabad, Rajendranagar and Meerpet excise stations, along with the Hyderabad and Secunderabad DTFs and the Hyderabad enforcement team, seized 28 bottles of liquor allegedly transported from Goa and other regions.
In another operation, Enforcement, DTF and Zahirabad teams inspected vehicles arriving from Goa and seized 25 bottles of liquor. Further inspections in Chenchulapalli and Julurupadu areas of Kothagudem led to the seizure of 189 liquor nips, 132 beer bottles and 10 liquor bottles from an unauthorised liquor sale point. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way. The Excise department also continued its ongoing drive against illicitly distilled liquor across Telangana. Raids in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district resulted in the seizure of 309 litres of ID liquor.
Additional seizures included 12 litres in Mahabubnagar, 25 litres in Warangal Rural and nine litres each in Vikarabad and Devarakonda in Nalgonda district. Officials also seized 210 kg of jaggery, used in the manufacture of illicit liquor, during raids in Mahabubnagar.
