The proposed Greater Bengaluru Township project in Bidadi has triggered protests and a political showdown in Karnataka. During a land survey in Mandulahalli village, farmers confronted government officials with brooms, leading to clashes, stone-pelting, and injuries to police and survey personnel. Following the incident, police registered two FIRs against more than twenty farmers, charging them with assault on public servants and obstruction of duty.
While the state government defends the township project as crucial for regional development, opposition parties have accused the administration of prioritising real estate over agricultural livelihoods. The ruling party maintains that the project will proceed in accordance with the law, while the opposition demands its cancellation to protect fertile farmlands.
