The public healthcare system in India is under scrutiny following multiple patient deaths in Rajasthan and Kerala. In Rajasthan, eighteen maternal deaths have been reported since May across several government hospitals, including five deaths within six days in Banswara. A preliminary inquiry by an expert panel has flagged violations of maternal care protocols, deficient monitoring, and procedural lapses, holding medical staff responsible.
Meanwhile, in Kerala, an eighteen-month-old toddler died after receiving anaesthesia for a minor lip injury. The family alleges medical negligence, and the police have booked the anaesthetist. An expert medical board is investigating the incident to examine treatment records and determine if standard protocols were followed.
