The Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) has urged the State government to grant relaxation in certain fire safety norms while issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to long-established affordable private schools, arguing that rapid urbanisation has made compliance impossible. Anil Kumar and treasurer Srikanth Reddy said many affordable private schools were established 20 to 30 years ago, when they had adequate access roads and open spaces around their campuses. However, subsequent urban development, including the construction of residential apartments and commercial buildings, has significantly reduced access for fire engines, a factor beyond the control of school managements.
They said the member schools had installed and regularly maintained fire extinguishers, provided emergency exits and evacuation plans wherever feasible. They pointed out that affordable private schools cater to lakhs of
students from middle-class and economically weaker families by providing education at relatively low fees. They requested the government to grant reasonable exemptions for schools established before the current regulations came into force.
