The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of ten lakh rupees on a comedian for making false statements before the top court. The court observed that the comedian had taken the court for a ride in violation of an undertaking given earlier. The bench warned that coercive action would be taken if the cost is not deposited soon.
The matter pertains to a petition filed by a foundation regarding insensitive remarks made by comedians. The court emphasized that individuals in public life must maintain decorum and respect others rather than humiliating them, noting that being outside the country does not place anyone beyond the court's jurisdiction.
