Ram Mandir Donation Row: Amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged donation theft at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Swami Govinddev Giri Maharaj on Tuesday claimed that the alleged embezzlement of donations is estimated to be around Rs 3 crore, rejecting reports that valuables worth Rs 14 crore had been stolen. While speaking to reporters in Pune, Giri said the ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe would establish the exact amount involved but maintained that the reported figure of Rs 14 crore was incorrect. “I can give a rough estimate that the theft is likely to be around Rs 3 crore. The reports claiming that gold, silver and other valuables worth Rs 14 crore were stolen are completely false," he said as quoted by news agency ANI. The Trust treasurer also denied media reports claiming that he had resigned amid the investigation.

He also clarified that former Trust General Secretary Champat Rai had stepped down voluntarily and was not forced to resign. “It would not be correct to say that he was made a scapegoat. He acted negligently, realised it himself and resigned of his own free will. No one pressured him to resign," Giri said.
