'Contradicts International Laws': Iran Condemns UK's Labelling Of IRGC As 'Terrorist Group' Published By, Last Updated: July 14, 2026, 15:55 IST "We condemn London's decision to classify the Revolutionary Guard as a threat under the British Security Act," the Ministry said. Rapid Read Iran's IRGC is already subject to British sanctions. (Reuters/File) The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned the labelling of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist group" by the United Kingdom, terming the move “irresponsible and unjustified." The Iranian Ministry stated that the UK’s decision to designate the group as a “threat to national security" contradicts international law.
“We condemn London’s decision to classify the Revolutionary Guard as a threat under the British Security Act," the Ministry said. Besides the IRGC, London has listed another Iran-linked group as a terror organisation over antisemitic attacks in Britain, as diplomatic tensions escalate with Tehran. Earlier on Monday, the UK Home Office said it would ban support for the IRGC, a central branch of the Iranian military, after years of political division over the issue, according to Sky News. UK ministers also outlawed the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right (IMCR), which has been blamed for a series of attacks on Jewish targets in the UK, as per reports.
“Having carefully considered all the evidence, the home secretary has concluded that there is sufficient basis to reasonably believe that each of these bodies is engaged in foreign power threat activity, and that each designation is necessary to protect the safety and interests of the United Kingdom," the UK Home Office stated in a statement.
