Police Sub-inspector accused of dowry harassment, assault; wife approaches Karnataka DG&IGP to lodge complaint

A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) posted in the Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s Office has been accused of dowry harassment, domestic violence, assault, intimidation, and misuse of influence to prevent police from registering his wife’s complaint. On July 14, the complainant, an advocate by profession, approached the Director General of Police (DGP) seeking action against her husband, identified as Bairappa. She alleged that despite approaching Kengeri Police Station, her complaint was not registered as an FIR, and was instead reduced to an NCR (Non-Cognizable Report).
According to the wife, the couple were married five years ago. They have a three-year-old daughter. She claimed the first three years of their marriage were peaceful. After that, her husband began demanding ₹50 lakh from her family, allegedly to help him after he was suspended in a bribery case. Latest Karnataka news updates She alleged that he frequently assaulted and harassed her for dowry, forced her and their child out of the house, suspected her character, and even denied the paternity of their daughter.
She accused the PSI of maintaining inappropriate relationships with other women. She alleged that the PSI threatened to have her killed by rowdies, and would allegedly bring criminals near their house to intimidate her. The complainant alleged that, on July 12, during a domestic dispute, her father, who had come to pacify the situation, was allegedly attacked by the PSI with a machete. She accused Kengeri police personnel of refusing to register her complaint because two of the PSI’s batchmates are posted at the station, and alleged that they were shielding him.
Seeking departmental and legal action, the woman has submitted a complaint to the DGP, requesting an impartial investigation against the PSI, as well as action against the police officials who allegedly failed to register her complaint.
