The Centre has allotted ₹1,000 crore for laying 2,400 km of rural roads in West Bengal and sanctioned the construction of one lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Tuesday (July 14, 2026). The announcement came after Mr. Adhikari held a meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who said that the Rural Welfare Ministry has sanctioned ₹8,508 crore for West Bengal for nine months till March 31, 2027, under the rural job scheme VB-G RAM G.
"The total outlay will be over ₹12,064 crore with contribution from the State government," Mr. Chouhan added. Addressing reporters, Mr. Adhikari said, "The Centre has given West Bengal ₹1,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the first phase for construction of 2,400 km
roads." He also said, "Union Minister Chouhan handed over the sanction for one lakh houses under the PM Awaas Yojana to me and Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh." At the press conference, Mr. Chouhan said that infrastructure works worth ₹82,492 crore were undertaken in West Bengal, but
could not be completed owing to non-cooperation by the previous government in the state. "All impediments in the path of completing these projects have been removed by the Suvendu Adhikari dispensation," he said, assuring people that infrastructure in the state will now be developed at a fast pace.
