(File photo: PTI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday dismissed allegations surrounding his association with the party’s former Councillor Tahir Hussain, who is now a convict in the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 Delhi riots. Six years after the deadly riots in Delhi, the Karkardooma Court on Monday convicted Tahir Hussain and four others for Ankit Sharma’s murder.
He was found guilty on charges of promoting enmity, rioting, assault, criminal force and murder. In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal responded to a post by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell head Amit Malviya, who called Hussain a “close associate" of the AAP chief. “We expelled him from AAP long long back. Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) July 14, 2026 Tahir Hussain, 4 Others Convicted The Karkardooma Court declared Tahir Hussain and four others convicts in the murder case and acquitted six other accused, observing that the prosecution had failed to establish their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
The quantum of sentence for the convicts is yet to be pronounced. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh convicted Hussain along with four others, including Nazim, Kasim, Javed, and Anas. Ankit Sharma’s Murder The case stems from an FIR filed at Dayalpur police station by Ravinder Kumar, father of Ankit Sharma. In his complaint, Kumar had alleged that his son, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, had stepped out on February 25, 2020, to buy groceries. When he did not return home, the family kicked off a search for him. Later, locals informed the family that Sharma had been killed and that his body had been lying in a drain near a mosque in the Chand Bagh Pulia area. The incident had unfolded against the backdrop of an intense communal riot in northeast Delhi in February 2020 amid protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
