Rapid Read US President Donald Trump. US-Iran War: Amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, US President Donald Trump has said the United States could soon target Iran’s heavily fortified underground nuclear facility, Pickaxe Mountain, as American forces continued a fresh wave of military strikes against the Iranian regime. In an interview on The Hugh Hewitt Show, the US President said that the US is closely monitoring activities at the heavily fortified site, which hosts two deeply buried tunnel complexes. He, however, rejected the possibility of Iran hiding any “doomsday weapon." “Pickaxe is a possible target for a nice, big, fat shot right near the front door.
Maybe you’ll see that," Trump said. He later added, “We’re watching Pickaxe Mountain closely… We’ll probably give Pickaxe a shot relatively soon." “You’ve obliterated 3 of their nuclear sites, but they got a 4th site, maybe, at Pickaxe Mountain. Before you enter into another deal, will you insist that IAEA inspectors get down into that deep, deep, deep tunnel…?"@POTUS: “Absolutely. They don’t have it because we have… pic.twitter.com/ywaTZEB2Tm— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) July 13, 2026 In another warning directed at Tehran, Trump said, “We’re going to take out Pickaxe Mountain. Tell the Iranians to be ready." Pickaxe Mountain is located near Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facility and houses deeply buried tunnel complexes that experts believe are among the country’s most heavily fortified nuclear sites. International inspectors have not been allowed to visit the facility, fuelling concerns that it could be used for sensitive nuclear activities.
The latest remarks came as the United States carried out a third consecutive night of strikes against Iran. The renewed military action follows Trump’s announcement that the US would reinstate its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz after accusing Iran of targeting commercial shipping in the strategic waterway. US Central Command said the operations were being conducted “at the commander in chief’s direction" and would continue to degrade Iran’s military capabilities and its ability to threaten commercial shipping. While Trump claimed there was no activity at Pickaxe Mountain, a recent assessment by the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security said satellite imagery indicated continued construction and fortification work at the tunnel complex. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints, with roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies passing through the waterway before the conflict escalated earlier this year.
