India has summoned Iran’s Deputy Ambassador to the Ministry of External Affairs after an Iranian missile strike on two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz left one Indian crew member dead and several others injured, government sources said on Monday. The diplomatic move came a day after the UAE said Iranian cruise missiles struck the tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah in the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani waters.

Four of the injured are still in critical condition. The tankers named in the strike were Mombasa and Al Bahiyah. The summoning of Iran’s Deputy Ambassador came after the attack in Omani territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz, in which an Indian crew member was killed and eight people, including six Indians and two Ukrainians, were injured, with four of them remaining critical.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said Iran fired two cruise missiles at the oil tankers Mombasa and Bahia, setting both vessels on fire. An Indian crew member aboard the Mombasa was killed, while eight others were injured, including six who sustained serious injuries. The injured include four Indian nationals and two Ukrainian crew members, according to the ministry. The UAE condemned the attack as a "brazen" violation of international law.
