A family’s weekend outing to the Bhavli Dam and waterfall area in Maharashtra’s Nashik district turned into a terrifying ordeal after they were allegedly chased for nearly 15 kilometres and their car vandalised for objecting to the sexual harassment of a woman family member.
The incident took place in Igatpuri town on Sunday, when members of the Bhagwat family were visiting the popular tourist spot. According to police, the trouble began after a group of men allegedly whistled at and sexually harassed a woman from the family. When her relatives confronted the accused over their behaviour, the argument escalated into violence. The attackers chased the family’s vehicle for approximately 15 kilometres and launched an attack. Seeing the danger, the Bhagwat family sped away from the scene to save their lives. During the chase, they hurled iron rods at the car, shattering its window panes and causing extensive damage. Due to the ordeal, the family was left in a state of shock.
Police said six people have been detained so far in connection with the incident, while the formal arrest process is underway. Investigators identified two men as the main accused in the attack. The remaining detainees were allegedly present with them during the incident. Officials said they traced the suspects by analysing CCTV footage from the area and videos shared by the victims, which helped police identify and track down those involved. Further investigation is underway.
