The TANKER Foundation, on Monday, launched Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) Fluid Bags Distribution Programme under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), Tamil Nadu at the Rotary TANKER Dialysis Unit in Ambattur. A press release said that Georgi Abraham, president and founder-trustee of TANKER Foundation, and who pioneered the introduction of CAPD in India in 1991, presented the first bag, in the presence of Latha A.
Kumaraswami, managing trustee. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abraham said, “Introducing CAPD in India in 1991 was the beginning of a journey to make home-based dialysis a reality for patients. Today, seeing CAPD fluid bags distributed through CMCHIS is a dream come true for all of us.” The first CAPD fluid was distributed to a patient named K.
