The Jagannath Swamy temple in Vizianagaram is geared up for an annual Rathayatra event, as priests began performing Vishwaksen Puja, Punyahavachanam, Mandaparadhana and other celestial activities on Monday. The event is scheduled to end on July 25.
The chariot procession, with idols of divine siblings Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra kept in the chariot, will begin on Thursday. The chariot will be halted at Sri Kanyaka Parameswari temple, where devotees can offer prayers from early hours until nightfall on the day.
The Rathyatra will be returned on July 24 to the Jagannath Swamy temple. The Endowments Department, in association with members of the executive body of
the temple, is making elaborate arrangements for the event and other festivals.
