Quraishi has recalled a dramatic conversation with former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Quraishi revealed that after the Election Commission pulled up then Union Minister Salman Khurshid for violating the Model Code of Conduct, some Congress leaders allegedly targeted the Election Commission.
He said that after he conveyed his concerns through PM Manmohan Singh's media adviser, the Prime Minister urgently called him and, in an emotional moment, remarked, "If that is what you think, I'll commit suicide." Quraishi said the episode reflected Dr. Singh's deep respect for the Election Commission and his sensitivity towards preserving its credibility.
