(Source: PTI) Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday met Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath in New Delhi, a day after resigning from the top post. The meeting was attended by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala, with discussions centred around the formation of the next government in the state. The leaders are also expected to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge later in the day. Sources said the deliberations included finalising candidates for the Rajya Sabha, appointments to the Legislative Council and a likely cabinet reshuffle ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the new dispensation. According to party sources, several ministers from the outgoing Siddaramaiah government may not be retained in the proposed cabinet to be led by DK Shivakumar.
The Congress leadership is also considering the appointment of four Deputy Chief Ministers to maintain social and regional balance in the new dispensation. Governor Accepts Siddaramaiah’s Resignation Meanwhile, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation, a day after it was tendered. However, Siddaramaiah will continue as Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made. “In exercise of the powers conferred on me under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India, I, THAAWARCHAND GEHLOT, Governor of Karnataka, have accepted the resignation of Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka and dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by him with immediate effect. Siddaramaiah shall continue to function as Chief Minister till alternative arrangements are made," the official order stated. Siddaramaiah Resigns At Order Of Congress High Command Siddaramaiah resigned from the post following directions from the Congress high command. Addressing a press conference after stepping down, the outgoing Chief Minister thanked the Congress leadership and the people of Karnataka for giving him the opportunity to lead the state.

The veteran Congress leader also underlined that the party continued to enjoy a comfortable majority in the Assembly with the support of independent legislators. “Our party has won 135+1 seats. In addition, two independents have also supported our government. We are in the absolute majority," he stated. The resignation followed a key breakfast meeting at the Chief Minister’s official residence, ‘Kaveri’, where DK Shivakumar was seen touching Siddaramaiah’s feet and hugging him respectfully, a gesture many people viewed as a symbolic leadership transition in Karnataka. Since the Congress formed the government in Karnataka, political circles have remained abuzz with speculation over a possible rotational chief ministership arrangement between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar.
While the party leadership has never publicly confirmed any power-sharing pact, rumours of a “2.5-year CM formula" have resurfaced repeatedly, especially during key meetings between Karnataka leaders and the Congress high command in Delhi.
