Rapid Read News18 At least 15 people have been killed, and several others are reported to be in critical condition after allegedly consuming toxic liquor in Maharashtra’s Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune areas. According to initial information, eight deaths were reported from the Dapodi and Phugewadi areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Three more people died in Pune’s Kale Padal area, while two deaths were reported from Hadapsar. Authorities said the overall death toll has reached 15. The spurious liquor was allegedly prepared by Yogesh Wankhede, who is said to be involved in the illicit liquor trade and already has multiple cases registered against him. Police have arrested the accused in connection with the incident. Sources said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered strict action over the alleged hooch tragedy and issued directions to the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioners.

“Do not spare anyone. Take strict action," the Chief Minister directed the police machinery. Both the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police forces have been instructed to conduct a coordinated investigation into the case. Raids are currently underway at multiple locations linked to the incident. Officials said eight people have been arrested so far, and stringent legal provisions have been invoked against the accused. The Excise Department has also joined the investigation as authorities attempt to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
