Centre offers ‘all help’ to Kerala govt. to protect rights of retrenched tech employees

The Union Ministry of Labour has offered “all possible help” to address the issues of more than 800 employees retrenched by U.S. technology firm CorroHealth Infotech Private Limited from its Kochi and Kozhikode centres recently. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya assured Kerala Labour Minister Bindu Krishna, who met him on Monday (July 13, 2026), that the Union government would stand for the “job and social security” of all workers. Krishna told The Hindu after the meeting that she had submitted a memorandum to the Minister on the issue.
“The meeting was very positive. Mr. Mandaviya promised all help from the Union government to address the issue. I told him that we will update the Centre about the outcome of the next round of discussions between the State government and the company, scheduled on July 20,” Ms. Krishna said. The issue is under the State government’s domain, a source in the Union Labour Ministry said. Mr. Mandaviya was apprised about the matter, and the retrenchments have nothing to do with the Labour Codes, the official said.
“The provisions on retrenchments in the Industrial Disputes Act are retained in the Code on Industrial Relations too. It is up to the State government to take a decision on the complaints of the employees,” the official said, adding that Mr. Mandaviya had promised all assistance for protecting the rights of retrenched employees. On Labour Codes Krishna sought time from the Centre to draft the State Rules on the four Labour Codes. The Union Labour Ministry had held discussions with State Labour Departments on June 8 on the Rules of Labour Codes published by the Union government in May.
“In Kerala, we hold discussions with all stakeholders — trade unions, representatives of employers, and various government departments before finalising rules for such important laws. I held discussions with trade union leaders on June 11. We will soon hold a labour conclave, and a final decision on the rules will be taken at this conclave,” the Kerala Labour Minister said.
