The Medical Commission (NMC) has granted approval for the admission of 100 MBBS students to the Government Medical College at Piduguralla from the 2026-27 academic year, marking a major milestone for medical education in Palnadu district. The approval follows the issuance of a Letter of Permission by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board under the Medical Commission Act, 2019, enabling the college to commence admissions with an annual intake of 100 students.
Welcoming the development, Palnadu District Collector K. Kritika Shukla said the approval would significantly strengthen medical education infrastructure in the district while improving access to quality healthcare in the region. She described the sanction of 100 MBBS seats as a proud achievement for Palnadu and a major step towards producing skilled medical professionals. The Collector said the State government and the district administration had worked in close coordination to ensure that the institution met the stringent standards prescribed by the NMC.
Priority was accorded to expediting the construction of the college buildings, strengthening the attached teaching hospital, creating essential infrastructure, recruiting qualified faculty, installing modern medical equipment and enhancing teaching standards. Continuous reviews were conducted to ensure compliance with every guideline issued by the NMC, she added. Shukla said the teaching hospital attached to the college had been equipped with the facilities required to provide comprehensive clinical training to students.
She expressed confidence that the institution would not only impart quality medical education but also strengthen healthcare services for people in Palnadu and neighbouring districts. The district administration, in coordination with the State government, would continue its efforts to maintain NMC standards and ensure the successful functioning of the medical college, she added.
