Karnataka Governor suspends KPSC chairperson Shivashankarappa S Sahukar over ‘illegal selection’ of daughter in government service In a first in the history of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has suspended KPSC Chairperson Shivashankarappa S. Sahukar, pending an inquiry, for alleged misconduct linked to the illegal selection of his daughter through the KPSC recruitment process. The Governor has recommended to the President of India to make a reference to the Supreme Court of India under Article 317(1) of the Constitution for an inquiry into the allegations. “To further ensure a fair, impartial and uninfluenced investigation while protecting the integrity and credibility of KPSC, the Governor has placed the Chairman under suspension until further orders from the President’s office,” read a statement from Karnataka Lok Bhavan on July 13.
The Governor has directed the senior-most member of the Commission to function as the Acting Chairperson until further orders from the President of India. 2. Mangaluru police find three illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, 11 suspects being questioned Mangaluru city police on July 13 found three illegal immigrants at Kuntikana during their search for illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. In addition, they are questioning 11 more suspected illegal immigrants found in Kodical area. On being tipped off, a team from Urwa police station went to a construction site at Kuntikana and questioned three persons. After going through their records, police found that they are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. A separate team visited a construction site at Kodical, and found 11 suspected illegal immigrants.
The police said they are verifying records of these persons. 3. Karnataka gender minority and intersex communities demand welfare board, ordinance against Trans Act, 2026 A delegation of members from the gender minorities and intersex communities in Karnataka, under the banner of transgender and intersex rights organisation Ondede, met Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar requesting the formation of a gender minority welfare board, on July 13, 2026. “We demand that a separate ‘Gender Minority Welfare Board’ be formed for the gender minority community and that the members of the community be appointed as the chairperson and members of the board,” read the letter submitted by the delegation which was led by activist and Ondede founder Akkai Padmashali.
4. Forest Department to crack down on wildlife hunting in north Karnataka The Forest Department has issued a set of guidelines to prevent illegal hunting and to act upon those who engage in any kind of hunting of wild animals, including trophy hunting or ritual hunting, especially in northern Karnataka. The steps included organising programmes to create awareness among local people, youth and school children about wildlife conservation as well as forest conservation, and taking legal action against those who hunt wildlife and post pictures on social media.
