The Rajasthan government has convened a high-level meeting to address the rising number of maternal deaths across state hospitals, including facilities in Kota, Jodhpur, and Bikaner. The state health minister met with senior officials, medical college principals, and hospital superintendents to investigate the root cause of these fatalities. The review comes amid concerns over delayed drug testing results, with only two out of several medicine samples processed so far.
Allegations of lobbying by pharmaceutical companies in government drug procurement have also emerged. The health minister, who previously attributed the deaths to weather conditions, has committed to visiting affected districts to oversee the ongoing investigation as nine more lives have been lost.
